Soccer takes it to the next level

With the Tigers winning more games in each of the past three seasons, the next logical step for the Tigers was to compete for a state championship. And it ended with a performance at the UNI Dome for the first time since 2011.

After going 10-2 on the season, the Tigers advanced to the semifinals with a 12-1 win in 2011. the year.

Aiden Flora stepped up under center and not only threw for 19 touchdowns, but added 17 more on the ground and 1,662 yards. He was 16th among all Iowa players with four more yards rushing.

And Brevin Dole, who leads the state with 2,681 all-purpose yards, has tallied 27 rushes, six receptions and two special teams touchdowns.

The Tigers have been outscored 245-45 in the last two games of the regular season and the first two games of the playoffs, and the duo has been in high gear.

The Tigers are closer than ever in 2022 to their first state title since 1970 and have accomplished some of the program's greatest accomplishments in recent memory.

With more than 30 wins since 2018 and an overall team record of 31-6, ADM also captured the Raccoon River Conference title (beating 4A champion Winterset) thanks to a strong lineup. Both Olivia Tolari and Alia Yanga received awards for outstanding seasons from the State First Team Coaches Association.

It all culminated in Harlan's trip to the state tournament, where the Tigers were eliminated early, losing 2-1 to North Scott.

The Tigers finished second with 66 points, just a few points shy of winning the 2022 Women's Track and Field Championships. And of course that means the Tigers had their best performance of the year.

Geneva Timmerman finished 3rd in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, bested only by Olivia Tolari's long jump win, a new state record. But she won gold in another event, sharing the top spots on the podium in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays with Makayla Crannell, Jada Grove and Hallie Henfling.

The boys also gained a good reputation with Bruin's puppet feet. Doll broke the Class 3A record by running the 100 meters in 10.74 seconds. But with a runner ahead of him by 0.03 seconds, he finished second in a rare record.

ADM left the track team with success this season with the boys finishing 12th in cross country this year and the girls finishing fifth in Class 3A this year.

Rounding out their events, Geneva Timmerman finished fourth and Hailey James 12th.

Women's golf continues to grow.

After finishing third overall as a team and in the RRC tournament, the Tigers returned to the state tournament with one of their best performances in recent memory.

The Tigers scored 366 points to lead the region in scoring average this season and finished 10th behind team leaders Cecilia Gardiner, Emma Mellencamp and Monica Thomas to qualify for the state tournament.
