The folks at Hoyle Auto Salvage in Greene County don't want people to think this is a scam, but they were in trouble after someone stole their Facebook ad to tweak it a bit and throw people off. .
Teresa Hoyle said they got a fair deal through Facebook, so they were surprised when someone called and told them they were going to pick up the machine they saw on the company's Facebook page. After Jill sent $1,500 through a banking app, according to Hoyles, she discovered the advert was fake. He said the message sender asked for cash, not a credit card.
The family told the victim by phone that they never owned the machine and he did not have $1,500. When the Hoyles checked Facebook, they found false advertising and a big red flag that people should be aware of. The whole difference is in the spelling. The original ad read Jim Whale Auto Rescue, the fake ad said Jim Whale Auto Savage.
"We thought he was turning pages but later in the afternoon we got another call asking the same thing," said Teresa Hoyle.
