As teased earlier, U Mobile now bundles 5G routers for its U Home 5G wireless broadband offering. Unlike Yes 5G, U Mobile offers the 5G router for free at the same monthly fee as the SIM-only plan.
To recap, the U Home 5G plan is currently offered at a promo price of RM68/month and it offers “Unlimited” 4G and 5G data with no mention of a speedcap. With a wireless 5G broadband plan, you can get fast fibre-like broadband speeds at home immediately without needing to wait for installations and wiring.
However, the plan does come with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 1,000GB per month and your speeds will be throttled to 512kbps if you’ve hit your monthly FUP quota limit. For those who need more data, U Home also offers a U Home 5G add-on that offers 1,000GB of extra data for RM30. So essentially, you can get 2TB of 5G data for RM98/month.
Previously, users who want to sign up with U Home 5G will need to buy their own 5G router which can be a hefty investment upfront. With the new 5G router offering, it is now easier to get on the 5G broadband bandwagon as the device is essentially free on a 24-month contract.
According to U Home, the router which retails for RM699 is covered by a 2-year warranty and users can enjoy seamless connectivity with WiFi 6 support. There’s no upfront payment for the device, but a one-month subscription (RM68) fee for the U Home 5G plan is required during sign-up.
As we’ve seen during an earlier preview, U Mobile is bundling 5G routers from either Kaon or ZTE as pictured above. Both devices offer similar capabilities with support for WiFi 6 and 5G SA. The visible difference is that the Kaon version has two LAN ports while the ZTE model has four LAN ports.
For 5G coverage, U Mobile currently taps into Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) network which promises to offer at least 100Mbps. DNB currently has over 80% 5G population coverage in Malaysia.
Recently, U Mobile and CelcomDigi have signed an MoU with ZTE to collaborate on 5G Advanced (5G-A) field trials and live use cases. It was also revealed that the collaboration will cover 5G-A field trials in Sarawak with carrier aggregated solutions such as Automatic Antenna Pattern Control (AAPC) and AAU Hibernation. Other 5G technologies include mmWave, Dynamic Frame Scheduling (DIS Solution) and Fusion Assisting Super TDD (FAST Solution) for faster 5G speeds, and a Native-AI Intelligent RAN for improved network and streaming management.
For more information, you can visit U Home 5G’s page. You can even order it online and U Mobile will ship the 5G router and SIM to your home address.
It is perfect time to make some plans for the future and it is time to be happy.
