Kineta, ChargEV partner together for EV charger roaming and more

Kineta and ChargEV officially announced their new partnership at the Malaysia Autoshow today. The strategic collaboration will generally revolve around EV charging solutions and infrastructure.

Kineta and ChargEV to leverage each other’s strength and reach

At its core, this partnership will see Kineta leveraging ChargEV’s strength as one of Malaysia’s major Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and its vast EV charging network. At the same time, ChargEV is also looking to ride on Kineta’s advantage within the consumer market and its engineering strength.

Kineta and ChargEV today have also revealed that they will jointly bid for selected large tenders in Malaysia and other markets within this region. Despite that, Kineta’s Managing Director, Sunny Lee and its counterpart at ChargEV, ST Chua have pointed out that this is just the beginning of the journey.

This is especially true given the fact that both of them are subsidiaries of two major conglomerates. Hence, there are still vast opportunities that both companies are currently exploring.

For one, Kineta already has a working partnership with Sime Darby Motors (SDM) given that both companies are part of Sime Darby Group and SDM has a long list of brands under its wings. Not to forget, there are also opportunities for EV infrastructure integrations with property development which is something that should be a matter of interest for Sime Darby Property.

Yinson GreenTech - ChargEV - DriveEV

Meanwhile, ChargEV is just one of several divisions under Yinson GreenTech (YGT) that also dabbles in EV fleet, digital fleet management, and mobility solutions. YGT is also one of the core business units within Yinson Holdings which is a Malaysia-based global energy infrastructure and technology company.

So, what does this partnership mean for consumers? For starters, EV owners will soon be able to utilise ChargEV chargers through the newly launched Kineta Charge mobile app.

However, the rollout timeline is still being finalised although both Sunny and ST have assured us that the ChargEV roaming feature inside the Kineta Charge app will go online within this year itself.
