Just slightly over a month after it was introduced at Computex in Taipei, pre-orders for ROG Ally X are now open in Malaysia. In general, the AMD-based Windows handheld gaming machine is more like a facelift upgrade over the original ROG Ally instead of an all-new successor.

In Malaysia, the ROG Ally X can be obtained for RM4,299 which is much higher than the launch price of the original Ally. As a comparison, the ROG Ally was released in Malaysia last year for RM3,299.

You can pre-order the handheld gaming machine through ASUS Official eStore as well as at selected Asus Authorized Retail Stores and game shops throughout the country. Unlike the original ROG Ally, the pre-order offering for ROG Ally X is slightly more modest though.

As noted earlier, the ROG Ally X is an upgrade instead of an all-new model. It is still powered by an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and has the same 7-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD screen although there is still a long list of new things that Asus has implemented on the machine.

For one, the ROG Ally X now comes with a 1TB SSD which is twice the size of what Asus has provided to the original Ally. The company has even redesigned the motherboard so that ROG Ally X can support the full-size M.2 2280 SSD.

The new model also comes with larger and faster memory in the form of 24GB LPDDR5X-7500 RAM. Another major upgrade that ROG Ally X has is a larger capacity battery at 80Whr.

The ROG Ally X also carries a new thermal solution that has been designed to deliver up to 24% more air volume. The solution features redesigned fans to help optimise airflow alongside two new tunnels in the fan housing and a third exhaust vent on the upper edge area

Asus also didn’t forget to implement some changes to other areas of the ROG Ally X. For example, the machine carries a redesigned chassis that offers better ergonomic design in the form of slightly deeper handles and a more rounded shape. Its buttons and sticks have also been rearranged to make them more ergonomic while allowing easier access to its triggers.

Other than that, the ROG Ally X also features more durable joystick modules and a more precise D-pad. The size of the macro buttons on the back of the handheld gaming machine has also been reduced to help minimise accidental presses.

Meanwhile, Asus has replaced the proprietary XG Mobile port with a USB-C port which allows the ROG Ally X to support various third-party docks and external GPUs. Do take note that only one of the USB-C ports is a Thunderbolt 4 port while the other one is just a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port although both still can support 100W USB PD 3.0 charging.
