Samsung has crafted a custom-made version of the newly unveiled Galaxy Z Flip 6. Officially called the Olympic Edition, it is not available for sale to the general public though.
Only 51 Malaysians can get their hands on this phone
As you may be able to guess from its name, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition is made specifically for the upcoming Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris. Only athletes who compete at these events will receive the special edition device when they arrive there.
In case you are curious, the Malaysian contingent to Paris 2024 consisted of 26 Olympic and 25 Paralympic athletes. Hence, technically, only 51 Malaysians get to own the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition.
This is not the first time that Samsung has provided free devices to athletes at the Olympics and Paralympics. Back in 2021, athletes who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympics Games were provided with Galaxy S21 5G Tokyo 2020 Athlete Phones as well as a Galaxy Buds Pro.
What’s so special about Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition?
For starters, this is the first time that Samsung has made its latest smartphone available to athletes before it was released to consumers. Yes, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has not been made available to consumers just yet although you are already able to pre-order it.
Featuring a gold-like yellow colourway, the Olympic Edition variant also features the Olympic rings and Paralympic agitos on its bottom area. In addition to that, the device is being accompanied by a special Flipsuit Case created by the French luxury leather maker, Berluti.
The case was crafted from Venezia leather and features a patina that was inspired by the colours of the Olympic rings. Naturally, Samsung has also crafted a special design for the packaging of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition.
In addition to that, the phone also comes standard with eSIM from French telco Orange inclusive of 100GB data alongside unlimited calls and texts. This would allow athletes to use the device throughout their time at Paris 2024.
It also contains several pre-loaded Olympics and Paris 2024-related apps. There are even in-app passes that allow athletes to use Samsung Wallet to get free beverages from the vending machines at the Olympic and Paralympic Village as well as access to public transport in Paris.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Malaysia pricing, pre-order
For the rest of us mortals, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is currently available for pre-order until the end of this month. Here’s the official pricing for the new flagship device in Malaysia:
