BYD M6 will be officially launched in Malaysia on 15 October. If you are looking to have a hands-on experience with the latest BYD family member for our market, the good news is that you don’t have to wait too long for that opportunity.
BYD M6’s first public event will be in Shah Alam
Sime Darby Motors (SDM) will be hosting the first public event for the new BYD M6 at the same weekend after the electric MPV officially launched in our market. It will take place at Dataran Karnival in Stadium Shah Alam from 18 to 20 October and you are already able to register your interest on BYD-SDM’s website.
Since Stadium Shah Alam has just been demolished to make way for a new stadium which is part of the Kompleks Sukan Shah Alam (KSSA) redevelopment project, some might be wondering how to get to the event area. All you need to do is locate Giant Seksyen 13 as Dataran Karnival is situated right behind the hypermarket.
BYD M6 quick specs
Size-wise, the BYD M6 is 4710mm long, 1810mm wide, 1690mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2800mm. As a comparison, it appears that the M6 is slightly smaller than the Toyota Innova Zenix which has a wheelbase at 2850mm as well as being 4760mm long, 1850mm wide, and 1796mm tall.
Equipped with a front-wheel drive setup, the Extended Range variant of the M6 features a 150kW (201hp) electric motor that can also deliver 310Nm of torque. If that sounds rather familiar to you, that is most probably because the 2024 BYD Atto 3 with enhanced specs and the BYD Dolphin Extended Range have a similar setup too.
The electric motor allows the electric MPV to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds. This variant also comes with a 71.8kWh battery which allows it to deliver an NEDC-rated range of 530km.
There is also the Standard Range version of M6 which comes with a slightly less powerful 120kW (160hp) motor although it still has the same maximum torque of 310Nm and 180km/h top speed. Paired with the motor is a smaller 55.4kWh battery which is why this variant has a shorter NEDC-rated range of 420km.
In terms of charging, the M6 Extended Range can support DC charging up to 115kW while the M6 Standard Range maxes out at 89kW. For AC charging, it is likely to come with a single-phase 7kW onboard charger similar to other BYD models in our market.
On the inside, the MPV looked not far off from its predecessor, the BYD e6. However, the M6 does feature several notable upgrades including a new steering wheel design and driver selector.
It has been equipped with a 12.8″ rotating screen on the dashboard alongside a 360-degree camera and support for Apple CarPlay. Safety equipment has also been upgraded with a total of 6 airbags along with a full-fledged Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that has features such as adaptive and intelligent cruise control, automatic emergency braking, door open warning and predictive collision warning.
There are also other features such as a wireless phone charger, ventilated and powered front seats, and a panoramic glass roof. Similar to other BYD models before it, the M6 can support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) which turns the fully electric MPV into a power bank to power your domestic home appliances.
For now, SDM has yet to reveal whether it will launch both the 6-seater (2+2+2) and 7-seat (2+3+2) versions of BYD M6 in Malaysia. That being said, BYD-SDM’s website has generally confirmed that the 7-seat variant will be available here.
