OnePlus has just unveiled its next-generation user interface (UI), OxygenOS 15. Built on Android 15, the new UI promises to be faster and smoother while bringing new AI and even Apple device-friendly features as well.
OxygenOS 15 is snappier, smoother, and niftier
As mentioned above, OnePlus says that OxygenOS 15 is faster and smoother than its predecessors, thanks to the introduction of Parallel Processing, which is said to be an industry first. This helps make transitions and animations on the UI smoother, and can even sustain smooth performance when opening and switching between over 20 apps.
OnePlus has also given its UI’s animations a facelift with OxygenOS 15, including the SuperVooc charging animation that pops up whenever you connect the phone to a charger. There’s also an easter egg within the calculator app where a OnePlus “Never Settle” animation will appear when you press on “1”, “+”, and “=”. Pretty neat!
Previously available exclusively on the OnePlus Open foldable smartphone, OnePlus has brought the Open Canvas feature to its candy bar models too via OxygenOS 15. Open Canvas essentially helps with multitasking by enabling features such as three-app split-screen, allowing users to switch freely between two apps while keeping their full window sizes intact.
OxygenOS 15 allows you to send files to your iPhone friends
With OxygenOS 15, the OnePlus Share feature now includes a new “Share with iPhone” feature as well, allowing users to share files with friends and family who are using iPhones.
Before you imagine this to be some kind of an AirDrop replacement, we’re sad to report that it isn’t. To make this feature work, the receiving iPhone needs to install an app, keep the app open during the file transfer process, and so on. So you will have to convince your friends to do so on their iPhones first.
OxygenOS 15 introduces Google’s Circle to Search and Gemini AI
OnePlus has added a list of new AI features with OxygenOS 15, including support for Google’s Circle to Search feature. This magical feature essentially allows users to find out about any information on the screen, such as images and texts, simply by drawing a circle around them. The tech company also announced that its future flagship models will come with Google’s Gemini AI, along with Gemini Live.
Additionally, OxygenOS 15 also brought other new AI features such as AI Detail Boost, AI Unblur, and AI Reflection Eraser for image enhancement, as well as Pass Scan, which allows users to scan physical boarding pass to Google Wallet by scanning it using the OnePlus native camera app.
There is also the AI Notes suite which can help you do things such as format and summarise your notes, generate new content based on the one you have written, and adjust the tone of your notes to sound more formal or casual, It can even help generate a message reply for you.
Developed using Google’s Gemini models, OnePlus’ Intelligent Search feature Can search through your phone’s settings, My Files, Notes, and Photos apps by using in-app keyword searches and natural language processing.
For example, you want to find out how much you’ve spent on your previous trip to Indonesia, but can’t find the relevant Excel sheet that contained a record of your expenses. You can simply ask Intelligent Search and it will let you know the exact amount.
OxygenOS has gone to the gym and is now 20% smaller
Despite carrying new designs and features, OnePlus says it has reduced the system footprint of its UI by 20% with OxygenOS 15 by removing redundant features. As a result, OxygenOS 15 takes up more than 5GB less storage space than before.
Closed and Open Beta to roll out for OnePlus 12 on 30th October
The Closed Beta of OxygenOS 15 will be made available for the OnePlus 12 beginning the 30th of October 2024 and will include selected AI features.
