Xiaomi YU7: Xiaomi’s next EV looks inspired by the Ferrari Purosangue

While the Xiaomi SU7 has been rather successful in its domestic China market, the smartphone brand has officially revealed its next electric vehicle model which will be called the YU7. The Xiaomi YU7 is a fully electric SUV and it looks very much inspired by the Ferrari Purosangue.

Coincidently, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was spotted with the Ferrari Utility Vehicle (Yes.. Ferrari doesn’t want you to call it an SUV) a few months ago, which sparked speculations that the next Xiaomi EV would likely be a performance SUV.

In a posting on Weibo, Lei Jun shared that the Xiaomi YU7 is expected to launch sometime in June or July 2025.

He added that he hopes to take off the camouflage on the YU7 test vehicle so that they can fully conduct comprehensive large scale testing of the EV to ensure product quality and make better products.

Xiaomi presented the full design of the YU7 shortly after the vehicle was revealed through official submissions to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Based on what has been revealed so far, the YU7 is 4,999mm long and has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. The fully electric performance SUV is said to come with twin motors that can deliver a combined 508kW (681hp) and has a rated top speed of up to 253km/h.

The YU7 will be equipped with a CATL-sourced NMC battery but there’s no information of its actual battery capacity and charging rate.

As a comparison, the Xiaomi SU7 Max has twin motors that produces 664hp and 838Nm of torque, and a 101kWh CATL Kirin battery.

For the current SU7 EV, Xiaomi has already delivered its 100,000th unit in November and it is now targeting to deliver 130,000 units by the end of this year.

The SU7 performance sedan offers Porsche Taycan-level performance for the price of a Tesla Model 3. We reckon that the Xiaomi YU7 could be priced around the same range as the Tesla Model Y.

So far there are no plans to introduce the Xiaomi SU7 for global markets but the EV has been showcased around Malaysia as part of the Xiaomi 14T roadshow.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype had recently set a new 4-door car lap record at Nürburgring Nordschleife. Following the success at the track, the company recently introduced the production version of the SU7 Ultra for consumers. According to Lei Jun, the production SU7 Ultra aims to combine race-level performance and convenience of everyday driving.
