Tesla Actually Smart Summon now available in Malaysia but there’s a catch

Tesla EV owners in Malaysia have reported that they are now able to use the Actually Smart Summon. The feature appears to have been implemented through update 2024.45.32, which was rolled out earlier this week.

Also known as ASS which is the official abbreviation given by Tesla, the feature was previously mentioned in update 2024.44.3 that was deployed last month which has enabled the Vision Autopark feature for Tesla EVs in Malaysia. However, only Dumb Summon (yes, once again, that’s the feature’s official name) was usable at that time.

Through ASS, Tesla owners can make their vehicles come to them. However, it appears that the ASS capability for Malaysia has been reduced though.

Tesla ASS operating range in Malaysia is quite short

Specifically, the ASS range for Tesla vehicles in Malaysia is currently limited to just 6 meters. As a comparison, the feature can cover up to 65m in the US and China.

The 6-meter operating range is mentioned in Model Y’s owner’s manual for the Malaysian market. However, it is not currently listed in Model 3’s owner’s manual.

Tesla did not explain why the operating range for ASS in Malaysia is significantly lower than in the United States. If we have to make an educated guess, this is likely due to Malaysia having committed to implementing United Nations (U.N) vehicle regulations into the national legislation.

Under the UN R79 regulation, the maximum operating range for remote control parking features in a vehicle must not exceed 6 meters. Tesla has also set the ASS operating range to 6 meters in other markets that have also adopted UN regulations into their national legislation such as Europe, South Korea, and Japan.

You need to pay at least RM16,000 to get Tesla ASS

Tesla Malaysia EAP and FSD add-on - December 2024
The pricing for Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving add-ons on Tesla Malaysia’s website, as captured at 5:36 PM today.

If you own an official Tesla Malaysia unit and are wondering why you are not able to utilise Tesla ASS, this is because you may have opted not to include the Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) or Full Self-Driving (FSD) add-on option when you purchase your Model 3 or Model Y.

At the moment, EAP costs an additional RM16,000 while FSD is priced at RM32,000. In Malaysia, these add-ons can only be obtained at the point of purchase.

In certain markets, Tesla does offer FSD via subscription plan but this option is not available in Malaysia at the moment. This may change in the future but so far, there is no clear indication from Tesla Malaysia that it will roll out FSD subscription any time soon.
