Vivo is making an MR device to rival Apple’s Vision Pro

Vivo has revealed that it will be entering the mixed reality (MR) market. The first MR device it will be building is set to rival the Apple Vision Pro. In fact, the silhouette of the device shown in Vivo’s teaser image looks to be inspired by the Vision Pro.

Prototype of Vivo’s MR device to be ready by October 2025

During its event, Vivo announced that a prototype of its first MR device would be ready by as early as September or October 2025. The product will also undergo “high-fidelity prototype experiences” in several cities across China by late 2025.

However, it’s not sure when the final product will be ready, as Vivo’s COO Han Boxiao highlighted that this is dependent on the readiness of supporting content ecosystems.

Vivo claims its MR device will one-up the Apple Vision Pro

Even more interesting is that Vivo claims that its MR device will surpass Apple’s Vision Pro in certain aspects. Even if it does, it won’t be a total surprise as the Apple Vision Pro will already be a product that’s about one and a half years old by then.

Also, it’s interesting to see Vivio dipping its toes into the MR space, considering that the Apple Vision Pro hasn’t been doing too well in terms of sales figures. But this could be mainly due to the Vision Pro’s steep asking price. Vivo might be entering the game with a different strategy to entice customers into giving its MR products a shot.

According to Han Boxiao, Vivio currently has 500 dedicated members in its MR team, working on the upcoming device along with large-scale model integration and spatial perception.
