“Budget” foldable to feature Z Flip 6’s display with Exynos 2500 chip?

Samsung currently has two foldable smartphone lineups, the book-style Galaxy Z Fold series and the clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip series, and both of them are positioned as flagship smartphones with matching specs and price tags too.

However, it seems like Samsung is planning to get even more customers onto its foldable bandwagon by introducing a more affordable foldable smartphone. This device will essentially be a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip device and is rumoured to be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE claimed to sport Galaxy Z Flip 6’s main AMOLED display

Expected to be launched this year, the Galaxy Z Flip FE is said to sport the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s display, according to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young.

If this claim turns out to be true, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE will feature a 6.7-inch Full HD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 pixels, and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz when fully open. This panel also has a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

However, it’s unsure what the Galaxy Z Flip FE’s cover screen will be like. For context, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 uses a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 748 x 720 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE to share Exynos 2500 chip with next-gen Galaxy Z Flip 7?

Besides its display, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE is said to be fitted with Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chip under its hood. This chipset is expected to be shared with the next-gen Galaxy Z Flip 7 as well.

Samsung’s decision to utilise its homegrown chipset might prove to be a controversial change, considering its chipset’s recent less-than-stellar reputation. Also, its current-gen Galaxy Z Flip 6 is packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, instead if its own Exynos 2400. Read our Galaxy Z Flip 6 review here.

Aside from Samsung’s next-gen flip phones, the Exynos 2500 is also supposed to make its debut with the Galaxy S25 series, which is expected to make its global launch on the 22nd of January 2025.

However, due to issues of low yields the company faced, Samsung will most probably be using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets for its Galaxy S25 series.
