BigPay now supports Alipay+, but there’s just one problem

BigPay has announced that it now supports Alipay+ payments in its eWallet app. The latest integration enables BigPay users to make QR payments in more destinations and merchants worldwide, in addition to its worldwide acceptance for card payments.

According to BigPay, users can now make payments at thousands of Alipay+ merchants in 48 destinations globally, however, there’s currently one huge limitation.

BigPay supports Alipay+ QR payment in over 48 destinations

To make Alipay+ QR payments with your BigPay app, just launch the app and tap on the “Pay”. Next, just scan the merchant’s QR code. Alternatively, you can tap on “Show my QR code” if the merchant is scanning your code instead. Be sure you tap on “Alipay+” tab to show your Alipay+ QR code.

From this screen, you can select the country you’re in and the app will also display the current exchange rate in real time. BigPay says there’s no additional charges for using the Alipay+ feature.

If you’re paying using the Merchant-Scan-User method, there’s a transaction limit of RM250 per transaction and up to RM1,000 per day. Meanwhile, Alipay+ payments via the User-Scan-Merchant method has a higher limit of RM3,000 per transaction, and up to RM3,000 per day.

As part of BigPay’s CNY promo, you can stand a chance to win up to 88,888 AirAsia Points with a minimum spend of RM1.

You can’t use BigPay to make Alipay payments in China

Unfortunately, the Alipay+ payment function in BigPay isn’t available in several destinations due to technical limitations. According to the help page, BigPay can’t be used in Mainland China, Thailand and Macau. In Japan, it isn’t supported at 7 Eleven outlets, drug stores and pharmacies.

BigPay’s lack of Alipay payment support in China is quite a disappointment as it represents the largest chunk of Alipay+ merchant network. BigPay says they are working to resolve the limitation the soonest they could.

If you’re going to Mainland China, TNG eWallet is still the best option for cross-border QR payments. They are the first Malaysian-based eWallet to enable seamless payments at over 10 million Alipay merchants in China.
