The government will provide a 50% discount on the toll rate in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year. The move was announced by the Works Minister, Alexander Nanta Linggi after it was approved during today’s Cabinet meeting.
The government still incur a hefty cost for the move
It was just earlier this week the minister revealed that the government has decided to discontinue toll-free travel for festive seasons. The government is looking to replace the practice with a “more targeted approach” although details behind the new approach are still a mystery.
Even though it is not completely free as per previous festive seasons, the 50% discount on the toll rate still comes at a high cost to the government. Alexander said that the estimated cost to implement this is around RM20.08 million.
Here’s when you can utilise the CNY 50% toll discount
Similar to previous toll-free travel implementations, the 50% discount on toll fares can only be obtained on specific days and times. Specifically, it will only take place from 12:01 AM on Monday, 27 January 2025 until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
The upcoming 50% discount on toll fares will be implemented at almost all toll plazas except Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang in Johor. Not to forget, this discount only applies to Class 1 vehicles.
