TNB Electron now supports card payment for EV charging, powered by JuiceUp

TNBX is now implementing card payment terminals at selected TNB Electron chargers in partnership with JuiceUp. The new development is essentially a realisation of the announcement at EVX 2024 last July.

TNB Electron Juru is the first to support credit and debit card

TNBX has chosen to debut the card payment option at TNB Electron Juru in Penang. Equipped with two CCS2 nozzles, the 200kW DC charger is TNB Electron’s fastest charger so far.

We were also informed that the card payment option will soon be enabled at other selected TNB Electron sites with highways being TNBX’s priority at the moment. Among the confirmed locations are the upcoming R&R Gurun Northbound and Southbound as well as R&R Tapah Northbound, and R&R Ayer Keroh Northbound although the exact rollout timeline was not revealed to us.

CIMB, Visa cardholders can get up to 22% discounts on EV charging at selected TNB Electron locations

Meanwhile, JuiceUp itself has partnered with CIMB and Visa to celebrate the milestone by offering special discounts to customers who charge their EVs at TNB Electron chargers that support card payment. Depending on the card that they have, they can obtain discounts of up to 22% during each charging session from now until 23 January 2026.

For many potential and existing EV owners, one of the most jarring pain points when it comes to EV ownership is the need to download multiple EV charging apps. With a card payment option, the process is much more simplified as all you need to do is just tap your card to the payment terminal to charge your EV.

However, JuiceUp solution has several additional features which are made possible by an app called Nimble. Accessible through the QR code on the card payment terminal, the web app provides the ability for users to easily monitor the charging progress of their EV directly on their web browser.

Through Nimble, customers also have the option to save their receipts for e-invoicing purposes, track their expenses and receive vouchers from various merchants.

TNB Electron is committed to both app and card payment

If you frequently utilise TNB Electron chargers, especially at Juru and other locations that we mentioned above, then you have to pay close attention to this.

In order to accelerate and simplify the implementation of the card payment terminal at these selected TNB Electron locations, TNBX has to deactivate the link between these chargers and the Go To-U app. This is why TNB Electron Juru is currently labelled as “under maintenance” in the Go To-U app right now despite being operational.

Once the card payment terminal is activated on TNB Electron Gurun, Tapah, and Ayer Keroh, the same will happen to them. This is not a permanent measure though as we were told that TNBX is still using the Go-To platform for TNB Electron chargers and they will be accessible via the Go To-U app once again when the reintegration process is completed later this year.
