Touch ‘n Go eWallet recently released its SOS Balance feature that aims to eliminate the “Baki Kurang” issue at the toll plazas. The feature provides a 24-hour emergency credit line so that you can pass through tolls first and settle the outstanding toll payment later.
According to TNG Digital, 150,000 eWallet users have taken advantage of the feature as over 500,000 SOS Balance transactions were recorded in less than 10 days. From the comments we’ve seen online, it appears that there are users have unknowingly used the SOS Balance feature despite having sufficient credit in their physical TNG Card.
TNG eWallet SOS Balance and PayDirect
To recap, the SOS Balance feature is enabled for TNG RFID as well as PayDirect transactions of eligible eWallet users. If you’ve linked your TNG card to your TNG eWallet, the PayDirect feature allows users to use their TNG card for tolls and the toll fee is then deducted directly from the eWallet.
It is designed to reduce the need of reloading the physical TNG card regularly and all you’ll need is to ensure sufficient balance in your eWallet. However, take note that only selected highways support PayDirect as listed below:
Previously, if your TNG eWallet balance is insufficient, the toll fare will be deducted from the physical TNG card. Recently, some were surprised to find that the TNG eWallet SOS Balance was used despite having enough credit on the TNG card itself.
Baki wallet aku kelmarin tinggal 80 sen. Dalam kad ada RM27. Yang peliknya dia tak tolak dari kad. Bila aku top up wallet RM200 hari ni, dia terus deduct jumlah tol yg aku aku lalu sejak 2 hari ni. What is this? https://t.co/rnN0GMLJqi

With the introduction of SOS Balance, users with insufficient funds are now defaulted to use the SOS Balance feature to ensure they don’t get stuck at the toll plaza. In other words, it will no longer use the TNG card credit unless you disable the PayDirect feature.
How to disable SOS Balance/PayDirect for your TNG card?
If you prefer to use your TNG card balance instead of your TNG eWallet or SOS Balance, you can do so by disabling the PayDirect feature. To disable PayDirect, just launch the TNG eWallet app, and then tap on “TNG Card” as shown above.
Next, select the card that you wish to disable PayDirect. On the top right corner, tap on the three dots and you should see a “PayDirect” option.
From here, you can choose to disable or enable PayDirect. A 6-digit PIN will be required to confirm the request and it will take 15 minutes to reflect the changes.
Remember that if you disable PayDirect, all transactions for the card will utilise the balance of the Touch ‘n Go card instead. This means you will need to keep track of your TNG card balance manually and ensure that you have sufficient balance at all times before passing through the toll plaza. It is more convenient to use PayDirect as it is easier to reload the eWallet instead of the physical card.
