iPhone 16e Malaysia: Official price and specs

Apple has announced its latest member to the iPhone 16 family and it’s the iPhone 16e. As rumoured earlier, this is essentially the new “budget” iPhone and it succeeds the iPhone SE 3rd gen.

Malaysians can pre-order the iPhone 16e starting tomorrow and here’s everything you need to know.

iPhone 16e Malaysia Pricing and Pre-order details

The iPhone 16e is the entry-level model of the current new iPhone lineup and here’s the official pricing in Malaysia:

  • 128GB – RM2,999
  • 256GB – RM3,499
  • 512GB – RM4,499

The device comes only in two colours – Black and White. For greater peace of mind, you can add AppleCare+ which provides protection for two years for RM499.

The iPhone 16e will be available for pre-order in Malaysia starting 9PM this Friday, 21st February 2025. The device will be available officially on the following Friday, 28th February 2025.

What’s new with the iPhone 16e?

In a nutshell, the iPhone 16e looks like a rehashed iPhone 14 but it gets only one camera for the rear and the silent switch is replaced by an Action Button. The overall dimensions are identical to the iPhone 14 but the iPhone 16e is slightly lighter at 167g. It features an aluminium design with ceramic shield for the front and a glass back.

Up front, the device gets a 6.1″ Super Retina XDR display which uses a 60Hz OLED panel that pushes 2532×1170 pixels resolution and a maximum brightness of 800 nits as well as a peak brightness of 1,200 nits for HDR. Similar to the iPhone 14, it gets the old notch instead of the new Dynamic Island.

Under the hood, it runs on the Apple A18 which is the same chip as the current iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. As you would expect from a brand new iPhone, the new iPhone 16e also supports Apple Intelligence.

In the camera department, the iPhone 16e still comes with a single 48MP f/1.6 Fusion camera with optical image stabilisation and it also offers 12MP 2x Telephoto shots via sensor cropping. The rear camera boasts flagship camera features including Photonic Engine, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 5, Portrait Mode with Depth Control, Night mode, Wind noise reduction, Spatial Audio and stereo recording. The iPhone 16e’s main camera is also capable of 4K Dolby Vision video recording up to 60fps, slow-motion video at 1080p at 240fps and night mode with time-lapse. However, it lacks action and cinematic modes.

For selfies, the iPhone 16e features a 12MP f/1.9 TrueDepth camera that also supports Smart HDR 5, Night mode and 4K Dolby Vision video recording.

In terms of connectivity, it supports 5G (sub-6GHz), WiFi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC. Unfortunately, Ultra Wideband (UWB) isn’t supported. It is also worth noting that the iPhone 16e features Apple’s new in-house designed C1 5G modem which is claimed to be the most power efficient modem yet. The device still comes with stereo speakers and it is also rated for IP68 dust and water resistance.

Despite being the budget iPhone, the iPhone 16e boasts longer battery life of up to 26 hours of video playback. As a comparison, the iPhone 16 is listed with up to 22 hours of video playback, while the larger iPhone 16 Plus offers up to 27 hours of video playback.

The iPhone 16e charges via USB-C and it is rated to do up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with a 20W power adapter that’s sold separately. It also supports Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W but it lacks MagSafe support. Out of the box, the device runs on iOS 18.
