Teluk Intan’s first public EV charger to go online soon

Teluk Intan will soon be more accessible to electric vehicles through the deployment of the town’s first public EV charger. Located in front of Tune Talk Centre in Jalan Changkat Jong, the new 22kW AC charger is just 5 minutes away from the town’s crown jewel, the 139-year-old Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan.

The backend portion of the new charger is handled by Powerbee which is a subsidiary of the local renewable energy company Solarvest that focuses on EV charging infrastructure. For clarity, the charger is listed as Tai Chong Seafood in the Powerbee app, which is located next to the Tune Talk Centre.

Meanwhile, the charging fee has not yet been finalised but take note that there is an idle fee of RM1.00 per 5 minutes although this fee will only kick in after 30 minutes. The exact activation date for the new AC charger is not yet known at this time but it will go live very soon according to Michael Seow who is the owner of both premises.

DC charger coming soon to Teluk Intan too

While an AC charger with just one connector might not seem much, it is still better than nothing. At the moment, Teluk Intan has no official public EV charger at all with the nearest facility being the TNB Electron DC charger in Aeon Mall Seri Manjung which is over 60km away from the town.

In fact, the only “public” EV charger in Teluk Intan at the moment is Michael’s personal 7kW Zhida AC charger at Tai Chong Seafood which he got when he bought a BYD Dolphin SR back in 2023. He offered the charger for free to the patrons of his restaurant but as the warranty of the consumer-grade Zhida AC charger has now expired, he felt that a more durable and permanent solution was needed for the benefit of Teluk Intan.

The entrepreneur then reached out to several Charge Point Operators (CPOs) which eventually led to the deployment by Powerbee. Once the new public AC charger goes online, he will “retire” his personal Zhida AC charger for public usage but that is not the end of the story though.

Michael has revealed to SoyaCincau.com that a DC charging station will be installed in front of his restaurant within the next few months. While he stopped short of revealing the CPO behind the upcoming DC charger and its power output, Michael said that the DC charger will be able to support two EVs simultaneously and the charging fee will be lower than the national average.
