Autel MaxiCharger DH480: this is the fastest standalone DC charger in Malaysia

Autel has officially unveiled the Autel MaxiCharger DH480 DC charger in Malaysia. Capable of delivering a DC charging speed of up to 480kW on a single port, it is essentially the fastest standalone DC charger in our market.

Revealed at the recent Solar & Storage Live Malaysia expo, an Autel representative told us that a number of local Charge Point Operators (CPOs) already showed their interest in the MaxiCharger DH480. However, the company is not able to name them as the discussion is still ongoing.

Nevertheless, it is quite likely that we are going to see this charger being deployed somewhere in Malaysia soon enough.

MaxiCharger DH480 is not just about speed

Just like what we pointed out in numerous reports about high-speed DC chargers in Malaysia, having a high-speed charger is not just about being fast. It is also about having the capacity to serve EV users at large.

To put things into perspective, the DH480 is much faster than the 360kW ABB Terra 360 that we highlighted in 2023, which at that time was the fastest standalone EV charger in the country. However, it only has 2 charging nozzles.

As for the DH480, it can be configured to have up to 4 charging nozzles. With the 4-nozzle configurations, each EV would be able to obtain an average DC charging speed of 120kW when the charger is fully occupied.

120kW is already quite fast for most 400V-based mainstream EVs in Malaysia at the moment, which usually have a maximum DC charging speed of 100kW or lower. In theory, faster charging speed means faster turnaround time, and this allows the charger to serve more EVs, which subsequently equals more revenue for the CPO.

Autel representative has also highlighted to us another advantage that the MaxiCharger DH480 has over its predecessors is its AI-driven algorithms, which allow the charger to recognise specific EV models. Once the charger identifies the vehicle’s model, it will then intelligently set the optimal charging speed for the vehicle.

Through the algorithm which Autel claimed is capable of boosting efficiency by up to 10%, CPO can also have the charger to consider the power utilisation of the whole site. This way, they can have more power being made available to the charger at times when there would be less power being used in the buildings within the site.

MaxiCharger DH480’s flexibility and scalability

Aside from the blazing fast DC charging speed, another highlight of the DH480 is its modular design. Among the advantages of this design is that it allows CPOs to easily scale the power output of the charger from 120kW to 480kW.

Let’s say a CPO is interested in using the DH480 at this particular site but doesn’t want to go all-out yet and would like to wait for the amount of user traffic that the site can achieve. The CPO can start with a 120kW power module first and then add new power modules to increase the charger’s power output once feasible.

In addition to having a rather clean internal structure, the modular design allows CPO’s maintenance team to quickly replace broken modules in under 5 minutes.  Autel also claimed that the integrated charging control modules helped reduce failure rates and can deliver over 98% of uptime.

Speaking about uptime, the DC charger can support multiple types of network connectivity to ensure a high level of uptime. This includes the usual Wi-Fi and Ethernet alongside dual 4G/5G cellular connectivity and support for Wi-Sun protocol.

The MaxiCharger DH480 has a long list of customisation options for CPOs to choose from. The charger can be obtained with a liquid-cooling charging nozzle, which allows for amperage settings as high as 650A – as opposed to the standard air-cooled setup that maxes out at between 380A to 500A.

They can also choose to have the MaxiCharger DH480 with either a spring-loaded or swing arm-based cable management system. The same goes for the charger’s screen as well, with a variety of sizes available, including 8, 15.6, and 27-inch.

The MaxiCharger DH480 also supports a variety of payment methods, including credit/debit cards and QR codes through integrated and external card terminals. CPO can also choose to use RFID cars and apps as the activation method, while the DC charger also supports both the OCCP-based AutoCharge and ISO 15118 Plug & Charge standards.

Not to forget, CPO can also integrate the MaxiCharger DH480 with external energy apparatus such as battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar system.

The MaxiCharger DH480 is not the only new DC charger that Autel has to offer for Malaysia though. There is also the MaxiCharger DH240 which generally shares many features of the MaxiCharger DH480, although it can only be equipped with up to 2 charging nozzles.

During Solar & Storage Malaysia 2025, Autel also displayed the MaxiCharger DS-Air charging satellite. It is part of the MaxiCharger DC distribution charging system that can deliver power output of between 120kW to 1440kW and supports up to 16 charging satellites.

The MaxiCharger DS-Air itself can deliver DC charging speed of up to 320kW with up to 2 charging nozzles. CPO can also opt for the liquid-cooled model which can deliver up to 480kW, while Autel has also designed a Megawatt Charging System (MCS) dispenser that is meant for medium and large commercial EVs.
