Is Oppo’s Find X8 Ultra the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s nightmare

It looks like we have come to the era of “ultra” smartphones. Almost all major Android brands have one, including Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo has just dropped its latest one — the Oppo Find X8 Ultra. As you can already tell from its name, this phone succeeds the Find X7 Ultra, and is the top dog device of the brand’s Find X8 flagship series.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra also offers quite a significant number of upgrades over the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro. You not only get a larger and higher resolution display, but also a larger battery and faster charging. Even more importantly, you also get an ever-beefier camera system that features five cameras, including a 1-inch Sony sensor.

Let’s start with the most exciting part of the Oppo Find X8 Ultra first — its cameras. As mentioned above, this phone packs a 5-camera setup, which Oppo has co-developed with Hasselblad.

This includes a 50MP f/1.8 main camera paired with a 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor, and comes with OIS. This unit features an upgraded 8-element lens, including a high refractive index glass element that’s said to minimise chromatic aberration.

Next up, you get two periscope telephoto shooters here, just like the Find X8 Pro. The first one is an OIS-equipped 50MP f/2.1 periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom capabilities and a 1/1.56-inch Sony LYT-700 sensor.

Oppo says this camera comes with its exclusive “Super Blue Glass”, which is claimed to further minimise glare and ghosting. This should allow the phone to capture over 400% more light than the 3x telephoto camera from the competitor. By employing a floating lens, the Find X8 Ultra’s 3x periscope zoom enables a minimum focus distance of just 10cm.

The other periscope telephoto lens is a 50MP f/3.1 camera with OIS and 6x optical zooming capabilities. It comes with a 1/1.95-inch Sony LYT-600 sensor. Lastly, Oppo has also added a new True Chroma camera to the Find X8 Ultra, whose main task is to boost colour accuracy.

Powering the Oppo Find X8 Ultra is Qualcomm’s latest and greatest mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is the same one you find in its sister phone, the OnePlus 13. The regular Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, on the other hand, feature Mediatek’s flagship, the Dimensity 9400. In China, Oppo’s latest ultra phone can be had with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Now, its display. You get a larger 6.82″ QHD (3168×1440) LTPO AMOLED display with the Oppo Find X8 Ultra that has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Looks-wise, the Find X8 Ultra sports an identical design language as its siblings, albeit with flatter sides, and measures just 8.78mm in thickness.

Compared to its less powerful siblings, the Find X8 Ultra also gets a larger 6,100mAh battery that can handle wired charging at 100W and wireless at 50W. This phone can also provide reverse wireless charging at 10W. For durability, the Find X8 Ultra is dust and water resistant with IP68/69 ratings.

Will Oppo launch the Find X8 Ultra internationally and in Malaysia?

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra will be made available in China on the 16th of April. As to whether this phone will be launching internationally, or even better, in Malaysia, there’s no official news from Oppo just yet.
