Xiaomi Malaysia has announced its new entry-level Redmi A5 and it succeeds last year’s Redmi A3. This is a budget 4G smartphone that now comes with a huge 6.88″ display and interestingly, it runs on Android 15 Go Edition.
Redmi A5 Malaysia Pricing and Availability
The Redmi A5 comes in two variants and here’s the official pricing in Malaysia:
- Redmi A5 3GB RAM + 64GB storage – RM299
- Redmi A5 4GB RAM + 128GB storage – RM349
The device comes in Ocean Blue, Sandy Gold and Midnight Black.

The Redmi A5 comes with a large 6.88″ 120Hz display that pushes a modest 720p resolution of 1640×720 pixels. Under the hood, it runs on a 12nm octa-core Unisoc T7250 processor that can be configured with up to 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. The device also supports expandable storage up to 2TB via microSD and there’s also virtual memory extension of up to 8GB (for 4GB RAM model)

In the camera department, it gets a dual-camera setup which consists of a 32MP f/2.0 main camera with a secondary “Auxiliary lens”. For selfies, the device gets an 8MP f/2.0 front camera that sits in a tear drop notch on the display. Both front and rear cameras can record up to 1080p videos at 30fps.
As mentioned earlier, the Redmi A5 is a 4G phone and it also supports 5GHz WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2 and it also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack. For instant unlocking, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and it also has AI face unlock.
Keeping the lights on is a 5,200mAh battery that supports 15W charging via USB-C. On a full charge, the A5 claims to provide up to 20.7 hours of video playback and up to 14.24 hours of reading.
Out of the box, the Redmi A5 runs on Android 15 (Go Edition). For those who don’t know, Go Edition is essentially the watered down version of Android designed for phones with less demanding hardware as little as 2GB of RAM.
