Nubia is continuing its big push into the Malaysian smartphone scene with its latest smartphone, the Nubia Flip 5G. As its name suggests, this is a clamshell-style foldable similar to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, but at a slightly more affordable price point.
Nubia Flip 5G Malaysia pricing and availability
The Nubia Flip 5G will come in just a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Available exclusively at the Nubia official store on Lazada, the Nubia Flip 5G will come with a recommended retail price of RM3,999.
However, as part of its super early bird promotion, from 15 April till 17 April you can get the Nubia Flip 5G for as low as just RM2,499. That would make it cheaper than even the Tecno Phantom V Flip that debuted late last year for RM2,999 as the cheapest clamshell foldable in Malaysia. If you miss out on their super early bird deal however, there will be another first sale promotion from 18 April onwards till 15 May, where you can get it for just RM2,899.
Nubia Flip 5G specs
The pocket sized foldable features a 6.9-inch, flexible OLED main display, pushing a 2790 x 1188p resolution for a pixel density of 443 PPI and is also capable of a 120Hz refresh rate as well as 2160H PWM dimming for reduced eye strain. That’s joined by a 1.43-inch circular OLED cover display that has a 466 x 466p resolution which you can use as a view finder for selfies as well as for widgets and notifications while the phone is closed shut. You can even own your own interactive ‘pet’ that sits in that cover screen.
As for the hinge, it is a dual-rail suspended hinge that Nubia claims will last over 200,000 unfold and offers a ‘wrinkleless’ screen. The actual chassis meanwhile is built with a zircon sandblasted frame and an AG etched glass finish for fewer fingerprint stains. When unfolded, the Nubia Flip 5G measures just 7.3mm thick while when folded it is 15.5mm thick; it also weighs in at 214g.
In the camera department, the circular ring around the cover screen houses a dual rear camera setup, though really you’d only be using the main 50MP, f/1.8 camera as the secondary shooter is just a 2MP depth sensor. When using the main display though you also get a 16MP selfie shooter in a punch hole cut out, though really you’ll be using that 50MP rear camera and cover screen for selfies more, as well as for face unlocking too.
Under the hood, the Nubia Flip 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 system-on-chip and is mated to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It comes with Android 13 out of the box, skinned with their own MyOS13 over it. Keeping the lights on is a 4,310mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. Other features of note include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers and support for NFC, 5G, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.
