During the Qualcomm keynote at Computex 2024, the company’s CEO Cristiano Amon, also revealed that the Snapdragon X Elite will be powering more than just laptops. After highlighting the latest Copilot+ PC laptops powered by Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus, he said that’s just the first wave.
“It is incredible but there’s more. Snapdragon X and Copilot+ are coming to all PC form factors”, said Amon.
He said Qualcomm is now in this neighbourhood to stay and they are not going anywhere, and added that Qualcomm is very happy to be working with their partners in all of the different form factors for the industry.
While he didn’t mention which form factor specifically, the presentation showed what seems to be an all-in-one PC as well as a NUC-like mini-computer and some tablet. That shouldn’t come as a surprise considering this is an ARM-based chip that goes head-to-head with the likes of Apple Silicon.
If you look at the Apple M1, M2, M3 and M4, you can find them not just on MacBooks but also on the iMac, Mac Mini and even on the iPad Pro.
In fact, there’s already a “desktop” Snapdragon X available that comes in the form of a development kit. Priced at USD 899 (about RM4,323), it is a compact PC with a Snapdragon X Elite with 12 cores clocked up to 3.8GHz, 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB NVMe storage. The kit comes with two USB-A and three USB-C ports, HDMI port, LAN port and a 3.5mm audio jack. It also comes with WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support built-in.
The Snapdragon X Elite is said to be the world’s fastest and most efficient NPU for laptops offering superior performance and multi-day battery life. During the keynote, Amon said the Snapdragon X Elite offers leading performance per watt for laptops with up to 2.6x versus an Apple M3, and up to 5.4x versus an Intel Core Ultra 7.
If you want to get your hands on a Snapdragon X Elite device with Copilot+, you will be able to get them from a variety of partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and Samsung. The devices will go on sale starting 18 June 2024 and they are expected to come to Malaysia sometime in Q3 2024.
