Maxis has announced a huge data quota upgrade for its Maxis and Hotlink Postpaid plans. For Hotlink Postpaid users, you can get up to double the high-speed data quota while customers on Postpaid 109 and above can enjoy unlimited data.
For Maxis Postpaid, take note that these upgrades are only applicable for the newer Postpaid 5G plans that end with “9” (e.g. 79, 109, 139, 169 and 199). There are no changes for the older “8” series Postpaid plans (e.g. Postpaid 98, 108, 128, 158 and 188).
Hotlink Postpaid now offers up to 300GB of data
Here are the upgrades for Hotlink Postpaid 5G Plans:
- Hotlink Postpaid 45 – 60GB (30GB 4G/5G + 30GB 5G) to 100GB (50GB 4G/5G + 50GB 5G)
- Hotlink Postpaid 60 – 100GB (50GB 4G/5G + 50GB 5G) to 200GB (100GB 4G/5G + 100GB 5G)
- Hotlink Postpaid 70 – 140GB (70GB 4G/5G + 70GB 5G) to 300GB (150GB 4G/5G + 150GB 5G)
Maxis Postpaid, now unlimited 4G/5G data for Postpaid 109 and above
Meanwhile, here are the upgrades for Maxis Postpaid:
- Maxis Postpaid 79 – 160GB (80GB 4G/5G + 80GB 5G) to 300GB (4G/5G)
- Maxis Postpaid 109 – 300GB (100GB 4G/5G + 200GB 5G) to Unlimited (4G/5G)
- Maxis Postpaid 139 – 480GB (120GB 4G/5G + 360GB 5G) to Unlimited (4G/5G)
- Maxis Postpaid 169 – 750GB (150GB 4G/5G + 600GB 5G) to Unlimited (4G/5G)
- Maxis Postpaid 199 – 1200GB (200GB 4G/5G + 1000GB 5G) to Unlimited (4G/5G)
As usual, the unlimited data on the Postpaid plans comes with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) but Maxis doesn’t mention a hard cap for data usage. The unlimited data on Maxis postpaid doesn’t come with a speed cap for both 4G and 5G data.
Why bother with Maxis Postpaid 139 and above?
With the new upgrade, you might be wondering if there’s any reason why you would need a plan Maxis Postpaid 109 since the green telco is offering the same unlimited data for 4G and 5G along with unlimited calls. According to Maxis, the higher plans (139, 169 and 199) provide better deals on devices as well as more share-line allocations for supplementary lines.
For example, you can only add one Share Line (RM48/month) on Postpaid 109, and two Share Lines on Postpaid 139. If you need four supplementary lines, you’ll have to opt for Postpaid 199 which lets you add up to 4 Share Lines.
If you’re planning to get a device with your Maxis postpaid contract, it isn’t worth it to go for a higher plan as you’re essentially paying more for the same unlimited data and call benefit. While the device pricing and Zerolution monthly instalments are lower on Maxis Postpaid 199, you are overpaying RM90/month which is equivalent to RM2,160 over 2 years or RM3,240 over 3 years.
The amount you overpay for the postpaid subscription cancels out whatever savings you get from the subsidised device pricing.
Existing Postpaid customers are upgraded in stages
According to Maxis, existing customers on Maxis and Hotlink Postpaid will be gradually upgraded with the new data allocation from 9th October to 5th November 2024.
Interestingly, the upgrades are offered as a Limited Time Offer which runs from 9th October to 16th January 2025. However, once you’ve upgraded, your quota can be enjoyed permanently which include all existing customers and those who sign up during the promotion period.
It added that those who sign up after the period will enjoy the previous default quota.
