Honor has just launched its latest affordable tablets here in Malaysia, the Honor Pad X8a which is the successor to the Honor Pad X8 released nearly two years ago, and the children-friendly Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition.

The Honor Pad X8a in Malaysia comes with 4G LTE connectivity and a free flip cover and can be yours at RM799. Customers can also enjoy a RM50 instant rebate when purchasing this tablet for a limited time, while stocks last.

As for the children-friendly Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition, it is offered in a sole Wi-Fi version and is included with a Kids Protective Case and a Drawing Stick. You can buy one of these for your kid at RM699.

The Honor Pad X8a and Pad X8a Kids Edition can be purchased via physical Honor Stores, the Honor official website, official Shopee and Lazada stores, as well as the brand’s authorised dealers including Harvey Norman and Senheng. The regular Honor Pad X8a is also available through Urban Republic.

Honor Pad X8a specs and features

Available in a sole colour option, Space Grey, the Honor Pad X8a features a metal body, weighs just 495g, and measures 7.25mm thin. It’s equipped with a SIM card slot, enabling 4G LTE connectivity for phone calls, text messages, and so on.

At the front of the Honor Pad X8a is an 11-inch Full HD+ Honor FullView Eye Comfort IPS LCD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, and a 90Hz refresh rate. Honor is also boasting its 84% screen-to-body ratio.

The “Eye Comfort” in the name of the display technology indicates that the tablet comes with eye protection features such as Low Blue Light and Flicker Free. There is also the Dynamic Dimming feature which is said to simulate natural light dynamics and thus reduce eye fatigue and adjust light output according to the time of the day. For a more comfortable reading experience, the Honor Pad X8a is packed with an E-book Mode, which makes its display appear more like paper.

Under the “hood” of the Honor Pad X8a is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 4G chipset. It’s then paired with 4GB of RAM, which can be expanded to 8GB thanks to the inclusion of the 4GB Honor RAM Turbo.

It comes with 128GB of internal storage, which you can choose to expand by up to 1TB using a MicroSD card. In the imaging department, this budget-friendly tablet comes with 5MP cameras at the front and back.

Powering the tablet is an 8,300mAh battery. With this cell, Honor says it can last up to 56 days on standby mode, deliver up to 57 hours of music playback on speakers or 14 hours of Full HD online video playback on a single charge.

Speaking of music playback, the Honor Pad X8a comes with four large-amplitude speakers. This setup features the Honor Histen Sound Tuning technology and has received both Hi-Res Audio Certification and Hi-Res Wireless Certification. On the software side of things, the Honor Pad X8a runs on the brand’s Magic OS 8.0 skin, which is based on Android 14.

Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition specs and features

As its name suggests, the Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition has been specially designed for children and is offered in Wi-Fi form only, with no cellular versions available. This kid-friendly tablet is equipped with a sole Sky Blue Protective Kids Cover option which is made out of food-grade silicone, protecting young children from ingesting harmful particles, and ensuring a safe user experience. To ensure that the tablet can handle your child’s playful nature, it has been made to be shockproof and can withstand drops and bumps.

Up front, the Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition is fitted with an 11-inch Full HD+ Eye Protection Display, featuring a 90Hz refresh rate, as well as above-mentioned display technologies such as Dynamic Dimming and E-book Mode.

Thanks to Family Link, parents are given full control over their children’s tablets. This enables parents to set screen time limits, lock the device, manage app downloads, and track their children’s location from their phones.

Being a children-friendly tablet, the Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition comes with the Honor Notes Sketch Pad. This allows kids to sketch and write on the screen with the Doodle Pen. The tablet is also pre-installed with Google Kids Space for children to learn and play.

Like the regular tablet, the Honor Pad X8a Kids Edition is equipped with 5MP sensors at the front and back and is powered by the Snapdragon 680 4G SoC. It is packed with an expanded 8GB of RAM along with 64GB of storage. The storage is expandable using a MicroSD card too.
