You can now get an MG ZS EV for as low as RM99,999, making it the most affordable electric SUV in Malaysia at the moment. It was originally released in Malaysia back in March for RM125,999.
The new price tag was made possible through SAIC Motor Malaysia year-end promotion which comes in the form of a rebate of up to RM26,000:
The MG ZS EV can be obtained in Arctic White, Black Pearl, Dynamic Red, and Monument Silver. SAIC Motor Malaysia provides a 7-year / 150,000km vehicle warranty together with an 8-year / 180,000km high-voltage battery warranty for the MG ZS EV.
MG ZS EV Malaysia quick specs
In Malaysia, the MG ZS EV comes only in one variant which features a front-mounted 130kW (174hp) motor that also produces 280Nm of torque. This setup allows the SUV to go from 0 to 100km/h in 8 seconds alongside a maximum speed of 170km/h.
Powered by a 51.1kWh battery pack, the MG ZS EV is able to deliver a WLTP-rated range of up to 320km. Charging-wise, this EV can support DC charging speed of up to 50kW and it takes around 54 minutes of charging time to get its battery from 10% to 80%.
It has also been fitted with a 7kW AC onboard charger and takes around 8 hours to be fully charged via AC charging. Other features that come with the MG ZS EV include a 4-speaker audio system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto.
When it comes to safety, the MG ZS EV comes standard with 6 airbags while the MG Pilot suite provides several Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features for this electric SUV. The features list includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Integrated Cruise Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Active Emergency Warning & Braking, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent High Beam Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Detection.
MG ZS EV vs other mainstream electric SUVs in Malaysia
Even though the EV market in Malaysia is still in its infancy, we already have a rather competitive mainstream electric SUV segment. Alongside the MG ZS EV, other options that are available in our market include Neta X, Leapmotor C10, GAC Aion Y Plus, Chery Omoda E5, and BYD Atto 3.
Not to forget, the hometown hero Proton is also set to launch their first-ever production EV, the Proton e.MAS 7 next month. Here’s what they looked like when compared next to each other:
From the table above, it is clear that the MG ZS EV is not the most powerful or spacious mainstream EV out there. However, the newly reduced price tag may give it renewed interest, especially for budget-conscious users who are looking for their first EV that offers enough space and performance for daily usage.
