If you need to charge your EV while driving from Penang to Ipoh, there’s now a new DC Charger deployed at Gunung Semanggol R&R Soutbound on the PLUS highway. TNB Electron has turned on its 180kW DC Charger at the R&R, making this an ideal stop for EV owners who need a quick top up.

The TNB Electron 180kW DC Charger is located right before the R&R food court area and you can spot the EV charging structure with TNB Electron branding as you enter the R&R. The Charge Point Operator has deployed an Autel DC Charger unit that’s configured to deliver up to 180kW and it comes with two CCS2 nozzles.

Similar to its 200kW DC Charger deployed at Juru, the TNB Electron 180kW DC Charger at Gunung Semanggol R&R is also priced at RM1.50 per kWh. To activate the charger, you’ll have to use the Go To-U app which is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store

Unlike most other DC chargers deployed on the North-South Expressway, the TNB Electron chargers are covered with a roof structure which makes it more pleasant and convenient to charge when it rains. There are F&B and toilet facilities nearby that you can use while you leave your car for a quick top up.

Gunung Semanggol R&R Soutbound now has a total of 6x DC charge points

With the new deployment, Gunung Semanggol R&R Southbound now has a total of 6 DC charge points. This makes it one of the largest clusters of DC chargers along the northern section along PLUS highway.

Besides TNB Electron’s 180kW DC charger with two CCS2 nozzles, there’s also a Gentari 150kW DC charging station with three CCS2 nozzles and a Gentari 24kW DC charger with a single CCS2 nozzle. However, Gentari’s 150kW DC charger isn’t covered so it isn’t as convenient to charge as TNB Electron during the rainy season.

Gentari’s 150kW DC chargers are priced at RM1.50 per kWh, while the slower 24kW DC unit is priced at RM1.30 per kWh. If you have an annual Gentari Go membership, you can enjoy 50% off and the 150kW DC charger would only cost you RM0.75 per kWh.
