Another new segment of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) will soon be accessible to the public. Officially called WCE Section 2, the new 7.2km portion of the highway covers the route between the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and Shah Alam Expressway (SAE/KESAS).

A summary of the toll-free implementation on WCE Section 2.

The public can start to utilise the route from 12:01 AM tonight (22 January). To celebrate the launch, the route will be made toll-free until 12:00 AM on 21 February although do note that the toll-free implementation only applies to the route between SAE Toll Plaza and SKVE Interchange.

In general, WCE Section 2 works hand-in-hand with WCE Section 1’s Banting to SKVE route which was opened last August. Together, they helped shorten the travel time from Shah Alam to Banting to just 25 minutes instead of the usual 1 hour.

The new linkage will also provide quicker access to Port Klang which is meant to boost its status as one of the country’s main logistics hubs. Aside from reducing travel time, the implementation of WCE aims to spur economic growth and new opportunities for the surrounding townships and communities.

At the moment, three more portions of WCE including Section 3 (SAE to NKVE/FHR2), Section 4 (NKVE/FHR2 to NNKSB), and Section 7 (Assam Jawa to Tanjung Karang) have yet to be opened to the public. The highway is expected to be fully completed by the fiscal year 2026.

While there are still no rest & service (R&R) areas within WCE at the moment, EV owners shouldn’t have any problem if they decide to utilise the highway. This is because DC Handal has already established several EV charging locations throughout WCE.
