The Huawei Mate XT is making its global debut in Malaysia. Launched in China back in September 2024, the tri-folding smartphone is getting its international release and the launch event is taking place in Kuala Lumpur on 18th February 2024.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design was first unveiled in Shenzhen China and it can transform from a candy bar phone factor into a larger 10.2″ tablet display. The tri-folding screen consists of both inward-folding and outward-folding elements protected by Ultra Thin Glass.
To recap, the Huawei Mate XT comes with a single 10.2″ 90Hz 3K LTPO panel that can be used as a 6.4″ (2232×1008 pixels resolution) display when it is folded completely. For a larger view, it becomes a 7.9″ screen in 2-pane mode (2232×2048 pixels resolution) or a 10.2″ screen (2232×3184 pixels resolution) when the device is fully unfolded.
Huawei doesn’t disclose its chip publicly, but the Mate XT is likely to run on the same Kirin 9010 chip as its current Pura 70 flagship lineup. In China, it comes with 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
The device is 3.6mm thin at the thinnest point which is remarkable. Despite its ultra-thin form factor, it still features flagship cameras from the Huawei Pura 70 series which include a 50MP main camera with variable f/1.4 to f/4.0 aperture lens, a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with 5.5x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 2.5cm macro. For selfies and video calls, there’s also an 8MP punch-hole front camera on the first panel.
The Mate XY boasts a large 5,600mAh battery and it is said to be the thinnest in the industry at only 1.9mm thin. It supports USB-C fast wired charging of up to 66W and fast wireless charging of up to 50W.
So far there’s no Malaysian pricing details yet but we reckon that the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design would come with a 5-digit price tag. In China, the base 16GB + 256GB storage model is priced at CNY19,999 (about RM12,195), while the 1TB version is going for CNY23,999 (about RM14,635).
As a comparison, Huawei’s current “dual-fold” Mate X6 is priced at RM8,688 with 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage in Malaysia.
