Samsung Galaxy A56, A36 & A26 announced with 6 OS upgrades

Samsung has revealed its new mid-range Galaxy A series which consists of the Galaxy A56, A36 and A26. Following the launch of the Galaxy S25 series in January, the Korean smartphone maker is bringing its AI experiences to its mainstream models powered by its latest One UI 7.

In addition, Samsung has also enhanced support for the new Galaxy A56, A36 and A26 with up to 6 years of OS and security updates.

What’s new with the Samsung Galaxy A series for 2025?

Object Eraser on Galaxy A series

Just like the Galaxy S25 series launch, the main focus is on AI. Interestingly, there’s no mention of “Galaxy AI” as Samsung is now marketing its AI-powered features as “Awesome Intelligence”.

According to the announcement, “Awesome Intelligence is the first comprehensive mobile AI exclusively available on Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G and brings users powerful, fun and easy-to-use AI tools.”

Some of the new Awesome Intelligence features include Circle to Search, Object Eraser and Filters. However, it appears that some AI-powered features are reserved only for the Galaxy A56, namely Best Face and Nightography.

Across the board, all three devices are equipped with a 6.7″ Full HD+ Super AMOLED display that come with Vision Booster and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The more expensive A56 and A36 feature a punch-hole camera while the entry-level A26 comes with a traditional notch.

For improved durability, all three models are also getting Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ for both the front and rear of the devices. All three Galaxy A devices also come with IP67-rated dust and water resistance.

The biggest difference among the three is the processor. The Galaxy A56 runs on an Exynos 1580 chip while the Galaxy A36 5G runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. The entry-level Galaxy A26 is running on an older Exynos 1380 chip.

In the camera department, all three devices feature a 50MP main camera. The Galaxy A56 also gets a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 5MP macro camera, while the Galaxy A36 features a similar setup except that it gets a 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. Meanwhile, the entry-level Galaxy A26 gets a 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro shooter.

For selfies, both the Galaxy A56 and A36 come with a 12MP front shooter with 10-bit HDR, while the Galaxy A26 gets a 13MP front camera.

Keeping the lights on is a 5,000mAh battery across the range, however, the Galaxy A56 and A36 are able to support up to 45W of fast wired charging. There’s no mention about the charging speed for the A26 but it is likely to be the same 25W as before. In case you’re wondering, the power adapter is not included in the box.

The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G comes in Awesome Lightgray, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Olive, and Awesome Pink while the Samsung Galaxy A36 5G is available in Awesome Lavender, Awesome Black, Awesome White, and Awesome Lime. The Samsung Galaxy A26 5G comes in Black, White, Mint and Peach Pink.

Samsung Galaxy A 2025 comes with 6 OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates

For the first time for the Galaxy A series, Samsung is promising 6 OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches. This is a significant improvement over last year’s Galaxy A series which came with 4 OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates. Out of the box, the new Galaxy A series runs on Android 15 with One UI 7 skin on top.
