The knife accident was taken into custody
Ventura police arrested a 38-year-old man Tuesday afternoon after wielding a knife in a Vons parking lot, at one point threatening several teenagers.
Officers from the Ventura Police Department arrived at the Vons Mall in the 6000 block of Telegraph Road at the corner of Victoria Avenue around 3:20 p.m.
According to the commander, it was a kitchen knife, about 4 centimeters long. Edward Caliento.
The suspect approached several teenagers and allegedly stabbed them, injuring a woman in the back. According to the police, he was not injured.
The man, described as homeless, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Caliento said the department knows the man, who has multiple prior arrests and convictions.
The city's work car is on fire
A man was arrested Monday on multiple felony charges after allegedly setting fire to a city public works truck carrying two officers, according to the Port Hueneme Police Department.
The incident began around 4 p.m. when police received reports of a man abusing adults and children at Babbling Springs Park near the baseball field in the 1100 block of Park Avenue. Two maintenance workers had just finished installing toilet pipes in the park when a man jumped into the back of the truck and set it on fire, police said.
Officers used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire and the man ran a short distance down Bard Road and out of town to Oxnard, where he was arrested by police.
The suspect is a 31-year-old Oxnard man with a previous arrest. The man was arrested on charges of assault with a firearm, arson and vandalism, police said.
Arrest procedure in the presence of explosive devices
A man who allegedly drove from Arizona to Thousand Oaks and set off a large fireworks display in his ex-girlfriend's driveway last month was arrested Tuesday.
On Jan. 28, Ventura County sheriff's deputies responded to the 100 block of South Fallbrook Avenue in Thousand Oaks for a report of an explosion. The residents told the deputies that a car stopped on the road and the driver threw an explosive device at it.
Sheriff's Capt. Steve Michalek said the device may have been an M-80, a high-capacity firecracker, and the suspect reportedly threw the device into the ditch. The resident told officers it looked like a stick of dynamite.
A 50-year-old woman living on the street is said to have been stalked by her ex-boyfriend and suspects he may be responsible. The 51-year-old man lives in Arizona.
Investigators found evidence that the ex-boyfriend was a criminal and had traveled from Arizona to commit the crime, then returned to Arizona after the device exploded, sheriff's officials said. They obtained a $100,000 warrant with extradition conditions and contacted the Pinal County, Arizona Sheriff's Office for assistance in locating the suspect.
The man was arrested on Tuesday by Pinal County authorities.
